Where overcrowded homes are most common: California Hawaii New York Alaska Texas Where overcrowded homes are least common: Wyoming Delaware North Dakota South Dakota South Carolina You can check out the full report and rankings here: https://www.lendingtree.com/home/mortgage/overcrowded-study/ LendingTree's Chief Consumer Finance Analyst, Matt Schulz, had this to say: "The states with the most overcrowded homes tend to be the ones with the nation's biggest urban centers and most expensive costs of living. In states like Wyoming, North Dakota and South Carolina, a family may be able to afford a home with a bunch of extra rooms. That’s generally not something you can do in larger metropolitan areas unless you’re wealthy.”
