How to Design Your Home for a Large Family Christmas

With the festive season fast approaching, it’s the time of year when families start talking about who will be hosting this year’s festivities. In many families, that honor falls on one family, and everyone descends upon their home for days of celebrations. While getting to spend the holidays with your nearest and dearest is always a wonderful treat, it does mean you have to get creative with home design to accommodate everyone comfortably. Take note of these helpful tips:  Buy a Large Dining Table If you don’t already own a beautiful, large dining table, Christmas is an excellent opportunity to get one. Shop Eureka Ergonomic holiday deals, and you may find something truly special. A large dining table, be it extendable or not, allows everyone to sit together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other holidays. It can also be multipurpose, not only holding the Christmas turkey, but being a base for the kids to enjoy fun Christmas crafts.  Invest in Sleeper Sofas Homes are getting larger, and households are getting smaller, but that doesn’t mean every family has as many bedrooms as they would like. The average number per house was 2.8 in 2023. If you have more family members than bedrooms this holiday season, consider how you can maximize the available space to accommodate everyone’s needs. A sleeper sofa can be a recipe for success. Sleeper sofas function as comfortable sofas during the day, but can transform into luxurious beds for one or two people at night. Best of all, they don’t look out of place in a living room, a bedroom, a hobby room, or an office.  Purchase Chairs If there’s one thing that’s regularly forgotten about in the haste of food and gift shopping, it’s chairs. With all these extra people staying in your home, you need to ensure they have somewhere to sit. Now is a great time to shop for extra seating, such as dining chairs, ottomans, floor cushions, and benches. You may even see Christmas as the perfect occasion to upgrade your lounge suite or invest in new recliners.  Plan the Flow of the Space You’re bound to feel as though your house is in chaos with all your much-loved guests calling it their temporary home base. That’s why planning the flow of the space in advance of their arrival is so crucial. It helps you stay organized and feel in control!  Create zones, such as a food zone consisting of the kitchen and dining area; a kids zone with a play area, craft table, and movie corner; and a conversation zone with a living room, den, and/or sun room. If space allows, you might even create a dedicated coat-and-shoe zone so everyone has a neat, tidy place for their outdoor garments. If you have high-traffic areas that feel a little cramped and crowded, consider temporarily relocating furniture you won’t need during the holiday season.  If you’re trying to create the perfect space for family Christmas celebrations, a little planning can go a long way. Don’t underestimate the value of a large dining table, comfortable sleeper sofas, and flexible layouts with multiple zones for organization and chaos-free festive fun.
